My Story

I was assigned to Hotel Company 2/4 and was on LZ Neville the same time LZ Russell was hit (February 1969).  We too were overun.  One side of Neville was a shear cliff without much protection, but we were hit from all sides.  As a new PFC being in the bush for just 7 days before the attack on both LZ Russell and LZ Neville, I was (fortunate as it turned out) to be assigned to an listening post outside the lines that night.  Had I been with my fire team on the hill, I wouldn't be writing you today.

We also served on LZ Russell at least two separate times as perimeter security.  Each time we were there for several weeks and ran patrols in the surrounding areas.  Capt. Frank Zavachi was company commander and I was the company radio operater  (volunteered to carry a PRC-25 aka: Prick 25 after February).

A week ago (Sept., '05) my wife and I visited Washington DC and of course, the Vietnam Memorial Wall.  That trip brought back a load of memories and I starting looking around the internet for info on Neville and found your site.   I have to say it is impressive.  Just seeing the photos, even if were not the exact same times I was there, is awesome.
