"WE THE PEOPLE of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union..."
They said it couldn't be done! The very idea that a nation could be
established of the people, by the people and for the people was laughable in
halls of power around the world. Yet we not only did it, we set an
example that was admired by people in every nation on the planet! Millions clamored to our shores to live in the freedom we created and
defend. Powerful elitist governments in nations world wide were shaken
by our example, knowing their own people may rise up against their unfair
and intrusive governments...governments who never even considered what
suffering their selfish actions may cause their people.
They were shaken because we did exactly that; We rose up
against our own government, the British Empire, who was then the most
powerful nation on Earth...and we WON! We threw the bastards out!
Yet in years to come, Britain became our best ally in defeating the Nazis
and the Soviets, and currently in defeating terrorism. Our willingness
to set aside past grudges and cooperate in facilitating the common good
served both nations in creating more freedom and more security for ourselves
and the world.
Since the beginning, America has been under threat by those who would
tear it down, or dominate it for selfish purposes. In this new
millennium, with advanced transportation and communications, threats can
quickly manifest in to serious attacks on our system and way of life from
enemies both foreign and domestic...attacks we never imagined before it was
too late to stop them. These attacks, threats and alerts can give rise to a
fear induced
hysteria that would divide us, as a nation. Yet that division could be
the very thing that weakens us enough to be vulnerable to even greater
threats to our Liberty and Freedom, as provided for in the Constitution of the United
States of America, which each one of our members has sworn to protect and
defend.
Let every one of us to take a moment, on this Independence
Day, to remember that even though everyone may not belong to our particular political
party, or agree with us on how to solve critical issues our nation faces,
the bottom line is that we are all Americans. It is that union, above
our differences, which empowered a strong brotherhood that has made our national
achievements the greatest the world has ever seen and propel us to new
heights now and in the future.
