WOUNDED WARRIOR’S BARRACKS PROJECT
November 16, 2007 LZ Russell Association Members and Friends
Autumn leaves have fallen. Winter is around the corner. Thoughts and planning for the coming holidays are hatching. As this time of year comes around things seem to start to slow down. The bears are eating their last big meals and will soon head for the caves. The nights are becoming cooler and we’re waiting for that first night we need to use our fireplaces. For the LZ Russell Association it has been a great year. We continue to receive calls and e-mails from our “brothers”, their children and other family members. Numerous times this year I’ve heard familiar words: " I just found the LZ Russell website. I haven’t talked to or had contact with any of the guys I served with 38 years ago!" They are excited to see the names of our members and read some of the personal experiences members have shared of that time, 38 years ago. To all that put in so many hours to move the Association forward, thanks. We are still reaching guys. So far this year we have, through our humanitarian program, provided funds for four children in Viet Nam to have heart surgeries. We have assisted the Hau Vien Kindergarten in the Cam Lo District, Quang Tri Provience, Viet Nam with maintenance repairs and upgrades. This is the kindergarten the LZ Russell Association built in cooperation with the East Meets West Foundation. We are also on our way to realizing the goal of a $2,000.00 donation to the Marine Corps Wounded Warriors Barracks at Camp Lejune, NC. The latter subject is that which I wish to address to our members and friends. We would like to complete our fundraising for the Wounded Warriors Barracks by the end of the year. With business, family, and spending of the holidays closing in we would like to ask for your consideration in helping to complete this goal.
