Viet Nam Laryngectomy Humanitarian Project began in April 2000 with a fact finding mission by Larry Hammer, Speech-Language Pathologist. He had the desire for 30 years to use his professional experience and skills to assist the people of Viet Nam who had undergone the surgical procedure of a laryngectomy. This procedure is performed usually to remove cancer from the throat, after which one is unable to speak again. VNLHP is a non-profit humanitarian organization that collects medical and educational supplies specific to the laryngectomy for distribution in Viet Nam. Educational information is also disbursed through group and individual interaction with physicians, hospital caregivers, patients and their families. A return trip is scheduled for March 16 – April 14, 2001. This project involves hospitals, patients, and families in Hanoi, Da Nang, Hue, and Quang Tri/Dong Ha.
