LZ Russell Association, Inc., was created to transform the ugliest part of humanity into the most beautiful part of humanity.  It was not created in guilt, for all who fought on LZ Russell, American and Vietnamese, were decent men and brave enough to stand up and serve with their lives when their nation called on them.

Education is the engine of humanity's positive future.  The LZ Russell Association's intention is to reflect this positive influence by the efforts and financial resources of its’ members and associate contributors.  It is uncommon for a military combat fraternal organization, the very men who have taken the bullets, lived the fear and witnessed the death, to reach out to its former enemy with forgiveness, understanding, reconciliation, and aid; especially an enemy they did not defeat in a war.  Yet, the members of the LZ Russell Association are doing just that.  This act, alone, stands above all the heroism on the battlefield in its glorification  of that which is good in mankind.  There is no higher tribute that can be paid to the memory of those who died on LZ Russell and LZ Neville than to honor their sacrifice for good and let it inspire us to make a better world for future generations.  There is no better way to make this world what it was created to be, than by educating the children of the next generation of World citizens.

The LZ Russell Association has been blessed with a wonderful opportunity to make a significant impact on the future of humanity.  LZ Russell Association Officers, Larry Hammer and Robb Mitchell, inspired this project, to build a kindergarten schoolhouse close to where our comrades in arms gave their lives.  The total cost of construction was $5,000.  It was built close to the former LZ Russell Fire Support Base.  Actual construction was done by the “East Meets West Foundation”, which has completed other schoolhouse projects of similar design in the Quang Tri Province.  EMWF had an anonymous benefactor who matched donations with LZ Russell Members and Contributors.  Once announced, it took only two months for LZ Russell Members to gather up the funds from our members.  This project is ongoing.  We continuously help upgrade the school with things such as a new kitchen and a new paved playground (so they don't have to play in the mud).  You can always allocate a donation to this project any time you like.
